Born from a Vision for Smarter Optics
Lumentum was founded in San Jose, California, by a team of photonic engineers who saw an opportunity: the world's networks were hungry for bandwidth, but optical technology was stuck in the last generation. We set out to bridge that gap with silicon photonics — integrating what used to require an entire shelf of equipment into a single pluggable module.
Today, with 620 employees across 52 countries, we deliver optical transceivers, DWDM systems, and coherent platforms that carry data at speeds up to 800 Gbps per wavelength. Our 140+ patents reflect a relentless commitment to pushing the limits of what light can do inside a fiber.
